Louis Vuitton Speedy
The Speedy is Louis Vuitton's original city bag: a soft-sided, zip-top duffle shape numbered by its base width in centimetres. The classic Speedy is a handheld; the Bandoulière adds a removable, adjustable strap and a distinct D-ring construction, and commands a premium on the Australian secondary market because it can be worn crossbody. Vachetta handles and trim are the condition story here — expect patina, and check for cracking at the handle roll and darkening around the piping.

How we authenticate a Louis Vuitton Speedy
- Monogram placement should be symmetrical across the base seam, and the LV should never be cut off at the centre front on canonical placements.
- Date code format must match the manufacturing era; pieces from 2021 onward carry an embedded microchip instead.
- Zip pulls should be branded and the stitching count across the handle attachment should be even and consistent left to right.

The 25 is the everyday size for most buyers and looks neater on smaller frames. The 30 works if you carry a laptop sleeve, nappy essentials or travel items.
Should I worry about dark vachetta?
An even honey or chestnut patina is normal and desirable. What matters is whether the leather is dry, cracked, water-spotted unevenly or lifting at the stitching — all of which we note in the condition grade.
Is a Speedy Bandoulière worth the extra?
If you want to wear the bag hands-free, yes. Handheld Speedys sell for meaningfully less in Australia, which makes them the better value if you don't need the strap.
